Heirloom Cards are created with iris-folding, which resembles the opening of the eye’s iris or the eye of a camera. Often framed, these cards are gifts in themselves or serve to enhance a thoughtful present. Blank note cards, the Birds-On-A-Card® edition, are available, as well as cards for all occasions, including holidays, birthdays and weddings.
The cards are made with two types of paper: cardstock and Japanese Washi paper. The cardstock is acid and lignin free, FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified, and 30% recycled. The figures on each card are created with Washi paper (multiple layers of silk screening). Since this delicate paper is not acid free, an archival spray preserves its beautiful colors. Washi papers come and go, so the colors and Washi patterns on these cards change over time, and each card is usually unique.
The designs are my own creation or come from Circle of Crafters, www.circleofcrafters.com/irisfolding/, or from Maruscha Gaasnbeek, who gave me written permission to sell cards based on her work in 460 Iris Forded Cards to Make and 130 New Iris Folded Cards to Make. From beginning to end, an individual card takes one to two hours to make. They are made in a smoke and animal free space. Each card is designed to be an heirloom. Enjoy their beauty.
